I imagine them hidden, just beneath the surface
of my skin, veins are roots, and the leaves
just haven’t found their way out yet,
just haven’t seen the light.
More tree than man, beneath all this,
taking the poison from you,
transforming it back to the air
that keeps you breathing.
I wonder if you know how often
I stay quiet
just dying to be watered.
I swear when the wind picks up,
breathless in some forest,
I can hear them whispering,
beneath all I am, I know without question
I speak the language
